Review Summary:

If size is more important than having UHD resolution, then the Sony KDL65W857C might be just the TV for you. The picture still looks great in Full HD 1080p and the 65-inch screen provides an amazing viewing experience. Beyond that, it comes with a bunch of nice features like the Smart TV, DVR recording and screen mirroring. For a TV with a really big screen and a versatile array of features, you won’t do much better than this.

For a massive screen at a reasonable price, the Sony KDL65W857C offers a good experience. It may not be UHD, but the Full HD screen does provide a picture quality that will satisfy most buyers, and it comes with a great selection of features and options to keep the user entertained.

With a 65-inch screen, some buyers may feel the need to upgrade to 4k resolution, but the picture on this Sony TV is still impressive at 1080p. It uses the Sony X-Reality Pro picture engine and Motion Flow XR. The picture provides a rich array of colours in an image that has great depth, and it holds up well, even in scenes that are heavy on action.

In addition to being a large TV with Full HD resolution, this TV also offers 3D viewing. The options for 3D viewing seem to be diminishing as time goes by, but this TV will do a good job if you happen to have any 3D sources. The only real issue is that the TV does not come with the 3D glasses, so you will need to buy them separately.

For features, this TV really packs a lot in there. It is a Smart TV powered by Android 5.0, it has DVR recording and media playback from USB drives, the user can do screen mirroring with mobile devices and it has the Freeview HD tuner built in.

As for the Smart TV with the Android operating system, it is pretty good, but there are some issues. It has a great selection of apps that you can use, and it provides access to almost all of the most popular services. That said, you might find some occasions where the apps do not perform well. As another point, the Smart TV has so many features and the included remote is just not equipped to navigate the system easily. With the Smart remote, it works like a dream, but that is a separate purchase.

The sound system that comes built into the KDL65W857C is average at best. The two 10W speakers do a fine job of producing enough sound for all of your viewing; it is just not nearly as cinematic of an experience as you get from the screen. With a screen of this size and a picture that looks this good, many buyers are going to want to consider getting a soundbar for a more complete experience.

The connectivity of the KDL65W857C is great and it makes for a TV that is easy to set up. For the Smart features, you have Wi-Fi, and you have 4 HDMI ports for connecting all of your HD components. In addition to that, you have 3 USB ports, a digital audio out, a SCART connector, a composite/component hybrid connection and a headphone jack.
